Pengalaman Pertama

eng ing engggg......

“The Tarix Jabrix”

Surprise-surprise!

Todong Long!!

PS: Watch the movie and you’ll know what I mean... hehe

  1. Hi Leony,

How UNFORTUNATE it is to discover that the first Indonesian cinematic experience you've had in 1.3 years is TARIX JABRIX.

In the past 1.3 years, there were lots of other good, critically-acclaimed Indonesian films you should've watch, such as:

    - Chants of Lotus (dirs. Fatimah RONY, Lasja FAUZIA, Nia DINATA, Upi)
    - Love for Share (dir. Nia DINATA)
    - Badai Pasti Berlalu (dir. Teddy SOERIAATMADJA)
    - Dead Time: Kala (dir. Joko ANWAR)
    - 3 Days to Forever (dir. Riri RIZA)
    - The Photograph (dir. Nan ACHNAS)
    - Children of Borobudur (dir. Arswendo ATMOWILOTO)
    - Opera Jawa (dir. Garin NUGROHO)
    - Quickie Express (dir. Dimas DJAYADININGRAT)

Next time, when I'm in town, not only should we go to Lara Jonggrang to grab a bite, we should go to the cinemas as well.

Aku lagi nyari2 bioskop2 butut kelas kambing nih! As you know, Indonesian cinemas can be classified into 4 classes:

    - 1st class: Leather recliners, full bar service, felt blankets, etc such as 21 Cineplex's premiere. Tix: upwards of IDR 100,000

    - 2nd class: Nice felt & wood-trimmed seats, curved large screen such as 21 Cineplex's Studio XXI

    - 3rd class (sometimes known as "boutique cinemas"): kitschy new cinemas screening occasional world cinema films and feature large (albeit with uncomfortable seats) theatres such as Blitz Megaplex & MPX Grande. Tix: IDR 25,000 - 30,000

    - 4th class: basic cinema with 1990s-era quality seats and unfurbished but clean facilities. Example: regular 21 Cineplex theatres. Tix: IDR 15,000 - 30,000

    - Arthouse class: for arthouse & film buffs. Seats and ambience not important and sometimes irrelevant. Such as Erasmus Huis, CCF, Japan Foundation, PPHUI. Tix: most of the times free of charge.

    - 5th class: dilapidated version of 4th class cinemas, mostly situated in low-class areas. Features creaky & dodgy (sometimes smelly & humid) seats, unkempt restrooms, cracked walls, etc. Example: 21 Cineplex in Megaria and Viva Tebet. Tix: IDR 10,000 - 15,000

    - 6th class (also known as GOAT CLASS): very dilapidated theatres that do not belong to major cinema operators. Mostly independent cinemas. Features wooden-hard seats, sometimes no aircon, occasional cockroaches and RATS (honest to god), smelly theatres, and playing mostly local B films and Bollywood films. They do play Hollywood films, but usually 2 years after the original release date. Examples: who knows. Tix: below IDR 10,000 maybe??

Nah...aku lagi nyari bioskop yang 6th class gini...
